When The Past Becomes The Guide

When The Past Becomes The Guide People tend to rely on the past as a means to prepare for the future.  While it is true we need to learn from our mistakes, are we allowing the past to control our future? Picking a time in my past that was riddled with mistakes and completely altered my life course, I ponder on how things could have gone differently.  We tend to focus only on the negative and often times allow that negativity to guide our present and future decisions.  Unfortunately, this way of thinking doesn’t help us resolve the conflicts or problems that haunt our memories. If we use the past…

Work after the kids leave home

Work after the kids leave home The way we spend our time has a great deal to do with the people in our lives. That can be with a significant other, children, adult parents, friends, co-workers, and even our pets. Yes, those adorable goldfish swimming around have a true purpose in our lives. You get up in the morning and before you have even combed your hair, you are feeding the fish, checking their bubbler, and changing the light settings. They create your first distraction of the day – you are their grocery cart. For those who have raised children (that’s a step up from goldfish), you understand distraction in…

Getting back in the game after an Injury

Getting back in the game after an Injury If you have ever suffered from a physical injury that has put you down for any length of time, you will understand what it means to “get back in the game”. It is a good thing if you can return to your job and not have to worry about re-injuring yourself. But for those who have an acute and/or degenerative injury to their body, learning to adjust to this new life changing event can take time. There are things that can help, like physical therapy, water therapy, chiropractic visits, yoga, and a reputable spa. Different therapies work for different people. Get back…

But I Like My Rose Colored Glasses

But I Like My Rose Colored Glasses Not that anyone would notice, but I kind of like my rose colored glasses.  Ten years ago maybe not, but  today – you bet.  I look at the world around me and I find myself at times wanting to shut it out.  Being a normally happy-go-lucky person, saying I want to shut the world out is a big statement for me. I think age changes how we spend our free time, and who we choose to spend it with.  While a few of my friends could still be accused of running around with a lampshade on their head,  a larger number of them have…

    Business walk on the Rocks

Business walk on the Rocks. Business walk on the Rocks I watched a Ted Ex video the other day about chat walks. Taking your business meetings and making them outside meetings. Inspired by this talk, one has only to think about some of the following items: decide on the location of the walk the length of time available to walk who you will meet with what you will discuss and the weather of course. The amount of stress alone saved in taking a chat walk is worth its weight in gold. It also helps to cut your blood pressure down, beef up your cardio, raise those happy endorphin’s, and bring…
