Working in a Tourist Town – with a Professional Team

Working in a Tourist Town – with a Professional Team.  A Real Team! I’ve worked on a multitude of different professional teams in my lifetime. Some were good, some were so-so, and some were just flat out disappointing. One particular team that I had the privilege to be a part of, rocked in every dimension. It was at the Moab Chamber of Commerce, back when I was first starting out in the business world, almost 26 years ago. The Chamber of Commerce at the time was located in the same complex as the local Grand County Travel Council. If you can image tourists from all walks of life, business professionals looking to relocate to the area, and…

Enjoy What You Do – Living The Dream! Hand Me The Remote Please   Enjoy What You Do – Living The Dream! I see many people leaving lucrative positions in order to personally, Live the Dream. People are opting out of complacency they find within the confines, of corporate American. They are moving away from the fast-paced lifestyle of city dwelling and migrating to the rural areas of the country. To say they are taking a hit in their salary range would be an understatement. So why are they doing it? Peace of mind Having the big bucks doesn’t necessarily help you much when all you want to do is be out on the bike trails, riding downhill,…

    Native American Studies – Reflections

Ringggg, ding, ding, ding goes the bell.  Sixth hour - last class, and I'm fortunate enough to  be able to join  the Native American Studies group for a day. This group is made up of mostly Native American high school students, a few white students, and one hispanic student. We all head down to the computer lab where the librarian graciously welcomes the class in.   Their first quest is to write one paragraph about  a series they had just previewed,  entitled Into The West.   The series  portrays tales from the American West in the 19th century, told from the perspective of two families, one of white settlers and one of Native Americans. A movie depicting the plight of the Lakota people. …

    Creative and Inspirational People

Creative and Inspirational People  Creative people have a deep respect for the very essence of everything around them.  It is as if they have a thirst for all things new and exciting.  Who wouldn’t want to be around a creative and inspirational person?  They are uplifting, kind, and filled with a wonder for life.  They can light up a room by just walking in with a smile on their face. They are usually highly intelligent in their own right and  don’t flaunt it unless challenged in a negative way. They will bring you strawberries in winter, and sprinkle glitter on your papers just to make you smile.  They draw you out of your…

    Risk Takers

How long has it been seen you have felt the Adrenalin pumping through your veins as you landed your first big deal,  sold that property, or made the biggest financial score of your life time?  What risks do you remember taking?  Would you take them again?  Would you advise others to take the same risks? Risk Takers I happened upon a group of young adults  this past weekend who were enjoying themselves by swinging off the walking bridge that spans the width of the Colorado River, just outside of Moab Utah.  With nothing more than a rope and true grit, each young man took their turn toppling off the side of the bridge holding…
