Phone etiquette 2.0. Meh!
When in doubt of who is calling, hang up! The days of answering your phone and believing that the person on the other end of the line is actually someone of importance to you, are gone. That isn’t to say that we don’t still get calls from loved ones, friends, and business associates. It’s just that we have those types of people already listed in our phone’s directory, along with a cool photo of them and some cute little emojis we share. I’m talking about spam, political ads, and of course the “you are delinquent – send me money to a foreign account”, type calls. Plus there are those who…
When The Past Becomes The Guide
When The Past Becomes The Guide People tend to rely on the past as a means to prepare for the future. While it is true we need to learn from our mistakes, are we allowing the past to control our future? Picking a time in my past that was riddled with mistakes and completely altered my life course, I ponder on how things could have gone differently. We tend to focus only on the negative and often times allow that negativity to guide our present and future decisions. Unfortunately, this way of thinking doesn’t help us resolve the conflicts or problems that haunt our memories. If we use the past…
Overcoming our fears – on the ledge
Trait theory is focused on recognizing and assessing individual personality characteristics. Fear is a trait. In talking with a young college student just recently, I learned that she is preparing to present to a group of kids who are incarcerated in a regional detention center in our area. Goals Where are you in alignment with your goals? Are you at the bottom, midway, or almost to the top? Maybe you have reached that goal. Or you could be one of those people who move from one self-satisfying goal to another. Is what you’re doing today, moving you closer to where you want to be? No matter where you are in the transition to accomplishing a goal, there are certain lessons that tend to be consistent along the way. You either learn the lessons that will help you be more successful or you don’t. Here’s a hint if you are uncertain of your goals. The voice of enthusiasm has…
Work after the kids leave home
Work after the kids leave home The way we spend our time has a great deal to do with the people in our lives. That can be with a significant other, children, adult parents, friends, co-workers, and even our pets. Yes, those adorable goldfish swimming around have a true purpose in our lives. You get up in the morning and before you have even combed your hair, you are feeding the fish, checking their bubbler, and changing the light settings. They create your first distraction of the day – you are their grocery cart. For those who have raised children (that’s a step up from goldfish), you understand distraction in…
