    Management – It’s 5 O’clock Somewhere

It’s Five O’clock SomewhereExcuse me as I juggle my way through the morning. First thing in the door I hear “we need this, have you heard from such and such, and don’t forget”. I am finally able to maneuver my way into my office and flip on my computer. As it is loading I check for voice messages and I’m not disappointed by the number of calls needing returned. A quick glance to my computer screen and I note that my e-mails just keep racking up one after another. I anticipate that it may be 11:00 or noon before I get through them all.Someone needs something in the other room,…

The Interview “Looks like a nice person, has a Twitter page”

The Interview “Looks like a nice person, has a Twitter page” For many who have been working professionals for most of their lives, it is often anticipated with some anxiety that those interviewing them ‘may not know how to interview them’. When you go into an interview and in two quick responses you have pretty much summed up the entire list of questions the interviewer had prepared, you quickly are able to gauge the aptitude of that business or organization. While those giving the interview have thought well and hard on their lists – you still manage to blow that list out of the water. What’s left for the interviewer?…

Put Your Busy Bully On Notice

Nearly every office has one, that person who for some reason keeps things stirred up. Whether it is a need for power or control, who knows? What they manage to do is have others begin to doubt their own skills and abilities. I like to think of these individuals as passive aggressive bullies, or my own naming convention of “The Busy Bully”. They don’t come right out and say something to another person in the office; rather they are busy gossiping or hinting around to others that “they know a secret”. They are also constantly second-guessing other co-workers true intentions and often believe others are talking about them behind their…

    Endorsements or Smoke and Mirrors

Endorsements or Smoke and Mirrors? In the real world I’m not sure LinkedIn skills and endorsements really matter unless you have the actual degree and/or years of experience behind you. Just copying some cool and trendy vocabulary that you think “might” match your talents, can be costly to you in the end. Really think about those skills – could you get a job in the field that you are listing? Or is what you have listed all smoke and mirrors? Is what you have listed all smoke and mirrors? Like everyone else I have learned that friends are great about endorsing you for things like Microsoft Excel and Customer Service.…

How to keep from falling behind, when you are already ahead – STOP

How to keep from falling behind, when you are already ahead – Stop.  A lot of us live our lives like this. Meeting deadlines, negotiating deals, setting up operations or systems. Once you are caught up and on track, you still sense a little nagging thought in the back of your mind that says “I gotta keep going”. “I can’t relax”.  I’m all caught up, but why do I feel like I’m late? I’m all caught up, but why do I feel like I’m late? Just recently I finished a project that was eating up a lot of my time, and left me feeling on the edge of my seat. If I finished the project early, someone would…
